It has been a busy few months at Vine Road and we are excited to update you all on our progress.
The Master Plan for Vine Road Park has now been submitted to the Council for review, with hopes of receiving feedback this summer. Preliminary design work, costing, and overall project planning are well underway. While we are working out the details for a new Vine Road Park behind the scenes, there are still many ways to get involved and enjoy the park!
Look for what is happening this spring!
The Community Growing Project is going from strength to strength, and we are always looking for more volunteers to come along and grow together and share their gardening skills! If you are interested in participating, please feel free to contact [email protected] or come along to one of our regular Saturday volunteers’ growing sessions. Check the calendar on our website for details. We also continue to collect donated seeds at the Pavilion.
The Feel Good Bakery are now firmly part of Vine Road Park and have had a huge amount of support from the local community, with one local family declaring their hot chocolate as the best to be found anywhere! You can find them in the converted orange horsebox outside of the Pavilion Thursday- Sunday, 8:30am – 3:30pm.
Skate Park Update: We are hoping to build up the community of people interested in helping design and promote skateboarding facilities at Vine Road. This would include the building of temporary ramps for the summer, and community sessions to share tips and to hang out with others interested in skateboarding. We will be hosting a Skatepark Tour around London with our friends at Kimber Skate Park. Please check our calendar of events for when the tour is finalised and become a Friend of Barnes Common to receive newsletter updates. Your feedback and involvement will be valuable when it comes to co-creating our own Skate Park. If you are interested in any of the details above, and/ or if you would like to participate in a small skateboarding group, please contact Eliza.
Coming soon… Flood Resilience:
The Friends of Barnes Common are preparing to help the community build up its resilience to the flood risks arising from climate change in a major 5-year programme with the Council and WWT (Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust), funded by Defra. This project will look at innovative ways to use nature based and sustainable solutions to cope with the risks of increased rainfall in the Beverley Brook catchment. We will be working on co-design and production with the community. It is a fantastic opportunity to improve biodiversity and wellbeing as well as share knowledge and understanding across all ages. We hope the Vine Road Project will be an example for many of the possible solutions within the landscape, in water harvesting and resilient building design. We will also be supporting initiatives in many parts of the catchment. Please check back on this page, and the FoBC website to see events and educational materials.
